Episode 12 Silent Enemy
This episode has some nice action as the Enterprise encounters some hostile aliens. They get into a bit too much trouble and Archer considers abandoning the mission to have the ship return to Earth for repairs and some R&R. As the Aliens keep attacking them Archer is convinced by Commander Tucker and Malcolm Reed to allow them to begin work on installing phase cannons. Archer agrees. When the aliens attack again, Enterprise uses the new weapons on the aliens, win the battle. Archer decides they don’t need to return to Earth. The mission continues.
This would have worked as a defacto series finale because many first season TV shows tend to be canceled after episode 12 or 13. Thankfully the show did well enough that it was allowed to close out the season.
